Rachel Kamin, Director of Lifelong Learning

Rachel Kamin is the Director of Lifelong Learning. She has served as the chair of the Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee, a national committee of the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL) that presents awards to the best Jewish children’s books each year and as the Book Review Editor for Children & Teens for The Association of Jewish Libraries Newsletter. Rachel also served as the chair of AJL’s Fiction Award Committee and was the 2021 recipient of AJL’s Fanny Goldstein Merit Award. She has authored articles for BookLinksJewish Book World, and Judaica Librarianship and also writes children’s book reviews for School Library JournalJewish Book World, and AJL Reviews. She contributed a chapter to The Tot Shabbat Handbook: A Practical Guide for Engaging Young Families in Congregational Life edited by Paula Feldstein (URJ Press, 2010) and co-authored a chapter on Jewish American children’s nonfiction for Reading and Teaching with Diverse Nonfiction Children’s Books (National Council of Teachers of English, 2021). Rachel holds a BA in history from Grinnell College and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Michigan.

Marcie Eskin, Librarian/Education Coordinator
A synagogue librarian for more than twenty-five years, Marcie Eskin joined North Suburban Synagogue Beth El in 2010. She is a past president of the Association of Jewish Libraries’ Chicago chapter, has contributed children’s book reviews to AJL Reviews, and taught an AJL Classroom course on the Elazar Classification System for synagogue libraries. She is a member of AJL’s conference planning committee, serving as conference registrar since 2015. Marcie holds an AB in government from Cornell University and a master’s degree in library and information science from Dominican University.
