Sunday, March 6 was the annual Beth El Mitzvah Day sponsored by Social Action. The event kicked off with three speakers: Betsy Brint – Highland Park Community Foundation, Amy Newman – Families Helping Families, and Elana Boiskin – HIAS Outreach & Education Specialist at JCFS Chicago. Each shared their organization’s important missions with our audience.
Over 140 attendees came to package items for The Highwood Library, Families Helping Families and the Moraine Township Food Pantry. Members donated plastic bags to make “plarn” that is made into mats for homeless people. Some families made blankets for Project Linus, and cards for Gidwitz Residents and local healthcare workers. There were also 25 bikes donated to Working Bikes. HIAS and PORCH gathered volunteers to help support their organizations. All in all an amazing day… take a look at the photos!
