In the fall of each year, the congregation holds a Ba’al Korei Shabbat at which members of the Institute participate in all aspects of leading the service, including reading all of the Torah readings for the morning. The chair person of the Institute delivers the D’var Torah, and award certificates are presented to members who have reached milestones in Torah reading during the preceding year. This special event allows the congregation to recognize and thank those lay congregants who provide a valuable service to the congregation by helping to ensure that the Torah continues to be read beautifully by lay individuals. It also gives the Institute an opportunity to encourage new potential members to begin the process of learning Torah cantillation. After services, the entire congregation is invited to participate in a kiddush luncheon sponsored by the Institute.
