North Suburban Synagogue Beth El

VAV Program
A Letter From Rabbi Schwab

Dear Beth El Vav Family,

We are so excited that this is your year to experience our wonderful Vav class program. I am sure it will be a year to remember. During the Vav year you will learn about your rich Jewish heritage in a friendly family-oriented environment and you will have the chance to meet so many other wonderful Beth El families going through a similar joyous experience. However, I am writing to tell you about another thrilling and holy opportunity which the Vav class provides. Each student, throughout the year, will have the chance to participate in Tikkun Olam, the Jewish mission of repairing the world. During each of the three class rotations we expect every student to participate in at least one gemilut chessed (community service) project of their own choosing. Judy Jackson, our project coordinator, has compiled a wonderful resource guide with information on many projects and organizations that would be happy to accept volunteers. She is also available to meet with each family to help you pick out the best project for you! I know that your active participation in this aspect of the program will be a positive experience that will last a lifetime.

If you have any questions, or to set up an appointment with Judy Jackson, e-mail her at mjdiz@comcast.net or call her at (847) 675-2413. She is looking forward to working with each family.

L’shalom,

Rabbi Michael Schwab
